Terms of use
The legally binding text of this page is German. unsupport is a private project based in Germany.
As of 18 October 2026
1. Scope and provider
These terms govern use of the website unsupport.com and of the iOS and Android apps unsupport (together, “unsupport”). The provider is Robin Milason Kryszak (see the legal notice). unsupport is a private information project and not a company. The app does not carry advertising by other companies. On the website, scan and chat work only after you tap “Accept and continue”. There is no checkbox there. In the iOS app the consent is a checkbox on the sign-in screen. It is not pre-selected. Without that checkbox, sign-in with Apple has no effect.
2. What the service does
unsupport gathers publicly available information about existing boycott, protest, and criticism campaigns by third parties, and matches products, brands, and company links automatically. The match, and the replies in chat and in the photo check, are produced wholly or partly by automated or AI systems. Scan and chat work like an AI chat: the output is generated automatically and is not checked by a person before it appears. It can be wrong, incomplete, out of date, or invented, even when it sounds sure. It is not a finding about a company and not advice to buy, avoid, or do anything. Anyone who reads it checks the named source and does not pass the output on as a checked fact. A campaign heading is usually the name the source itself uses, and it stays in that language. We translate the explanatory sentence under it. A translation can shift the meaning, set a name wrong, or make a statement sharper or softer than the original. It is a reading aid. The named source in its original language controls. There is no right to availability, completeness, or the continued existence of any feature. The service is free. It creates no duty to keep a feature available or to deliver a particular result.
On the iPhone, the Scan tab is the start screen after sign-in. From the second time you open the app, it is there at once. While it is open, the phone reads a barcode in the viewfinder on the device, without the shutter. Only the number is sent. On the website the same happens while the scan camera is open: the browser reads the barcode on the device and sends only the number, without an account. The recognised name comes from open product lists and is used for recognition. The colour comes from our own campaign database.
3. What the display means
unsupport does not guarantee that a photo, a name, or a corporate group is recognised correctly. The display can be incomplete, out of date, or attached to the wrong product. It is general information, not legal, investment, nutrition, or purchasing advice. Check the named source before you rely on it.
The traffic light says what third-party campaigns are in our list. It is not our own finding that an allegation is true.
Boycott means: a third-party campaign calls for a boycott, and the traffic light repeats that word. The target in the source may be the brand, its company, or a parent company. It is not a recommendation or a call of our own, and not a finding that the brand is already boycotted across the board or is itself the named target of the campaign. Disputed means: the hit is yellow with us and not marked as a boycott. Yellow can be criticism of the brand itself, without a call for a boycott. Yellow can also come from a campaign that sits only on a subsidiary or a sister company. The display then calls that a link in the group, not a direct boycott of this brand. Yellow does not say that criticism exists or that it is still running. The wording comes from the named source. If it sits wrong, we correct it under section 10. No red flags, and no campaign in our list, means: for this hit, no running campaign in our list colours the light, including through the company, a parent, or a counted subsidiary or sister company. That does not mean the product is good, safe, ethical, or free of all criticism. A minority stake that is shown does not contradict the green. Campaign ended means: on our information the campaign has ended and it does not colour the light. Note, not a shopping boycott, means: there is an entry that does not colour the light for ordinary shopping. Brand not recognised means: there was no reliable hit.
We show the corporate chain so it is visible which company the brand belongs to, and which parent, subsidiary, and sister companies sit in that chain. A running campaign about those companies can colour the light, as described above. We do not treat a joint venture as a parent company for this. Minority stakes are shown as well, so the stake is visible. They do not colour the light. The chain and the stake are not a finding about who receives the purchase price or who profits from a single sale. The view can be incomplete.
Something not shown means only that it is missing from our list. The list is not a complete picture of every public criticism.
4. Third-party campaigns and freedom of expression
unsupport does not itself call for a boycott. What is shown is that third parties (campaigns, organisations, media, international institutions) criticise a brand, its company, or a parent, subsidiary, or sister company, or call for a boycott, and the published reason they give. The sentence in the app is that report, not an allegation of our own. Naming someone does not say that they acted unlawfully. Where a source contains a value judgment, we repeat it as such. That is covered by freedom of expression and information under Art. 5 (1) of the German Basic Law.
5. Outside sources and distance (we do not adopt them)
The assessments shown rest overwhelmingly on other people’s material: publications by campaigns, organisations, authorities, international institutions, and the media, and on automated research and AI-assisted reading of publicly available web sources. That material is only repeated and summarised. The provider expressly does not adopt the statements, assessments, allegations, or demands of those sources, and distances itself from them where they go beyond a mere report. Only the authors or operators of the sources are responsible for whether that material is accurate and lawful.
A prior, complete review of every source pulled in automatically is not technically or economically possible. There is no general duty to review every source in advance. The traffic light and the chat sentence are unsupport’s own output, even when they repeat a named source. The provider acts as soon as it learns of a specific infringement (see section 10), and removes or corrects the affected material without delay. Liability for that output is governed by section 8.
6. Political neutrality
unsupport belongs to no party, organisation, government, or campaign, and is not commissioned or funded by any of them. Repeating a campaign is neither support for it nor a judgment of its political aims. Campaigns are chosen for public relevance and the state of the sources. The selection does not claim to be complete or politically balanced. A suggested alternative is a pointer to another product, not a certificate that the product is untainted.
7. Trade marks and third-party rights
Named brands, products, and company names, and the signs shown, belong to their right holders. They are used only descriptively, to identify them in reporting and expression. There is no business connection, sponsorship, or endorsement by the right holders.
8. Liability
The provider is liable without limit for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body, or health, and under mandatory law. For ordinary negligence the provider is liable only for breach of a material contractual duty, and only up to the foreseeable damage typical of this kind of service. Otherwise liability is excluded, in particular for the accuracy, currency, and completeness of the content and for decisions you take on the basis of it. That also applies when a scan or chat output was wrong or a translation shifted the meaning. Such an output is not a factual claim of the provider’s own, where it is recognisable as a report of a named source or as an unchecked match. If an output turns out to be wrong, we correct or remove it under section 10 as soon as it is named to us specifically.
9. External links and sources
unsupport links to external websites and sources. Only their operators are responsible for their content. At the time of linking, no infringement was apparent. Permanent review of the content is not reasonable without a specific reason. Links are removed promptly when an infringement becomes known. The provider does not adopt the content of linked pages and expressly distances itself from it.
The sources shown with a scan or chat reply are links we keep for the campaign entries that belong to that result. They can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date. The AI does not add its own source links, so that made-up or unchecked references do not appear.
10. A wrong match: write to us
If a product, brand, or company was recognised wrongly, matched to the wrong campaign, titled wrongly, or translated wrongly, write to hi@unsupport.com. You can find the page on our site under the Support tab. In the app and on the website you can also use the thumbs-down, with a short note. Name the hit and what is wrong. It helps to include the source we rely on, or to say that the campaign has ended, the company was sold, or the product is a different one.
We read every specific message and look at the entry. If the recognition or the label does not hold, we correct or remove it. We do not wait until someone demands that in court. A different opinion about the campaign itself is not a matching error: as long as the source publishes the call or the criticism that way, we pass it on and name the source.
11. Your duties
Use is for private, non-commercial purposes. In particular, the following are not allowed: automated reading (scraping), overloading or bypassing technical protections, uploading unlawful, insulting, discriminatory, or personal content, and using the results to harass, threaten, or defame anyone. There is no tolerance for unlawful or abusive content. Product photos are used only for that check and are not kept in the scan history in the apps (see section 12). You are responsible for what you upload and you make sure you have the rights you need. Keep the Apple or Google sign-in protected. unsupport never asks for that password. If these duties are breached, access can be blocked.
12. Privacy
How data is processed (including sending chat and photo content to an AI from Google, Anthropic, or OpenAI (the servers may be outside the EU), on the website by tapping “Accept and continue” before the first scan or chat, in the iOS app by the checkbox that is not pre-selected before sign-in with Apple, local settings, usage statistics, and crash reports) is described in the privacy policy. Accepting these terms is not consent to emails with offers, updates, and news. The iOS app has a separate tick for that. It is not pre-selected, and the app can be used without it. Details are in the privacy policy. The iOS app requires sign-in with Sign in with Apple. The Android app requires sign-in with Google. The account is held with us (authentication through our provider). The app stores scan results locally for your history view, without the product photo. You can clear the history or delete the account in the app. Without the app, reach us at hi@unsupport.com with the subject “Delete account”. After a notice we remove uploads that were not allowed. Chat histories are not stored automatically on a lasting basis.
13. Classification under the AI Act (not a high-risk system)
unsupport uses generative AI from Google, Anthropic, or OpenAI to read text and product photos and to match and display entries from our campaign database. The service is a general information tool for consumers. In our view it is not a high-risk AI system under the annexes to Regulation (EU) 2024/1689: unsupport is not used for biometric identification, for running critical infrastructure, for assessment in education or employment, for access to essential private or public services, for law enforcement, for migration or asylum, or for the administration of justice, and it is not a medical device. Interaction with the AI is marked briefly in the interface. The campaigns and traffic lights shown can be checked through the named sources. This classification is not legal advice and does not replace a formal conformity assessment if the use later changes in a material way.
14. Changes
These terms, and the scope and design of the service, may be changed at any time with effect for the future. The version published on this page applies.
15. Applicable law and final provisions
The law of the Federal Republic of Germany applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. Mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country where you live remain unaffected. If individual provisions are invalid, the remaining provisions stay in effect.
